The New 50-Unit Affordable Housing Complex Will Complement Downtown Downey’s Mid-Century Architecture and Will Include Energy Efficiency Measures

Downey, February 21, 2013 – The Community Development Commission of the County of Los Angeles (CDC) joined National CORE (Developer) to celebrate the groundbreaking of a new 50-unit affordable multifamily housing complex in the City of Downey. The front fac;ade provides a terrace offering residents views of the city as well as a rooftop garden, hence the name, ”The View.”
The View apartments are made possible through the CDC’s City of Industry funds, which allocated nearly $2.4 million to construct five stories of affordable housing with subterranean parking. The new construction, which includes 34 two-bedroom, 15 three-bedroom, and 1 two-bedroom unit reserved for an onsite manager, will assist tenants earning at or below 50% of Area Median Income. All units will have private balconies.
Residents will have access to onsite supportive services as well as a leasing office, community center, tot-lot, and garden. The View will provide much needed affordable housing services to very-low income families in Downey’s Downtown area.
Supervisor Don Knabe said, ”The View apartments will continue to fulfill a critical need for affordable supportive family housing and services in the area, and will offer residents the keys to long-term success.” This is the second project in the City of Downey that has used Industry funds to develop affordable housing; the first being Heritage Court in the nearby vicinity.
