Allan Kingston, former President and CEO of Century Housing, will help advance the national footprint of rapidly growing nonprofit housing organization.

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. –National Community Renaissance (National CORE) board of directors elected Allan Kingston, former President and CEO of Los Angeles-based Century Housing, to the position of Vice Chairman. Kingston will act as spokesperson and advocate of National CORE in order to create more opportunities for growth across the United States .

Kingston retired this year as President and CEO of the Los Angeles-based Century Housing Corporation after leading the organization for 18 years. He is a preeminent expert in the U.S. affordable housing industry. In addition to being named one of the “Twelve Most Influential People in Multi-Housing” by Multi-Housing News magazine he was recently honored on October 17, 2007 by Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa on behalf of the Los Angeles Business Council. Kingston was presented with the Chairman’s Award for “outstanding dedication to creating homes and services for thousands of Los Angeles ‘ working families.”

“Allan’s exceptional experience in housing and community development are a tremendous asset to the board and our organization,” said National CORE Chairman Jeffrey Burum. “The professional network he developed is a valuable asset to National CORE and will help us increase our exposure to new markets.”

Kingston will draw on his wealth of expertise for this role at National CORE. During his tenure at Century Housing, one of the country’s largest nonprofit affordable housing lenders and social service providers, he led real estate financing and development programs with $450 million of loan originations over the past 12 years. Under his leadership, Century Housing also added more than 14,000 units of affordable housing in more than 250 developments located in 52 communities throughout Southern California . He established the More Than Shelter® Services, Inc. which delivers vital social services to affordable housing communities. Services include after-school tutoring, academic counseling, transitional housing facilities, employment and job training programs, senior services, and two charter middle schools.

National CORE is the new name for the combined group of companies that includes National Housing Development Corporation, Southern California Housing Development Corporation, and Hope Through Housing; all entities are 501c3 nonprofit organizations. Kingston was nominated to the board of National Housing Development Corporation in 1999 and continued his service on the board of the new entity National CORE.

National CORE accomplishes neighborhood revitalization and enhancement by developing and managing quality, service-oriented affordable housing. National CORE utilizes a holistic approach to community development. Through its social services arm, Hope Through Housing (HOPE), it delivers quality social services on-site where residents live.
