Glendale, Calif. – During the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) annual award ceremony, The Nationals, on March 5, Vista Grande Court received the gold award for the Best 55+ Affordable Rental Community.  Located in Glendale, California, Vista Grande Court is a stunning senior development, with 66 spacious apartment homes for residents 55 and better earning between 30 and 60 percent of the area median income, seven of which are set aside for seniors with developmental disabilities.

“We’re thrilled to see Vista Grande Court recognized by the NAHB.  We are proud to have been part of a collaborative effort between co-developers National CORE and Linc Housing in partnership to expand the supply of affordable units in our City,” said Glendale Mayor Vrej Agajanian. “Especially in a time when our state faces an affordable housing crisis and a growing senior population.”

Vista Grande Court is a beautiful community featuring traditional Spanish Colonial architecture, white stucco walls, red clay roof tiles, and a rustic appearance, creating a truly magnificent community for senior residents.  Onsite amenities include a community center which serves as a hub for resident events and activities, a state-of-the-art computer room, community gardens, and outdoor gathering spaces.  The Hope through Housing Foundation provides onsite programs and services, promoting health and well-being at no cost to residents.  Dignity Health’s Glendale Memorial Hospital provides necessary health resources to residents and has been a tremendous partner during the COVID–19 pandemic.

“Vista Grande represents what is possible when you have great partners working together for a common goal,” said National CORE President and CEO Steve PonTell. “Together, with Linc Housing and the City of Glendale, we have created much-needed housing options, helping residents achieve housing stability while providing access to programs and services for a great quality of life.”

For the past ten years, the number of older adults experiencing homelessness has been on the rise.  Seniors across the nation are entering retirement in worse financial shape than same-age households in 2001, experiencing decreasing wealth, soaring rental costs, and the still-to-be-determined long-term effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are so proud to be part of this amazing development,” said Linc Housing CEO Rebecca Clark.  “Working with great partners with similar missions, together, we have built a community that strengthens the neighborhood and provides seniors who wanted to remain in the City of Glendale with a beautiful community to call home.”

The NAHB Nationals salutes and honors the best in the building industry for their determination, integrity, creativity, and endurance.

“The Nationals are the most prestigious awards of their kind, setting the benchmark for innovations in new home design, marketing, and sales,” said Angela Harris, chairperson of the Nationals. “NAHB’s commitment to recognizing originality, imagination, and success has been exemplified by its award winners since the competition’s inception.”

Vista Grande Court is proof that affordable housing, when built and staffed with care, is life-changing for its residents.

“It is truly exciting that the best 55+ affordable rental community is located here in our beautiful Glendale,” Glendale Housing Authority Chair Paula Devine said. “Vista Grande Court is a prime example of how we can work together to build attractive, affordable housing in Glendale that improves the quality of life for our low-income seniors.”
