National CORE is celebrating the enactment of the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, landmark bipartisan legislation that modernizes the nation’s affordable housing programs and provides new tools to help communities address the growing housing shortage.

Effective July 10, the new law updates longstanding federal housing policies, streamlines key programs and strengthens the nation’s ability to preserve existing affordable housing while supporting the development of new homes.

“The 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act is one of the most significant advances in federal housing policy in decades,” National CORE President Michael Ruane said. “By modernizing programs that have served communities for generations, Congress has created new opportunities to preserve affordable housing, encourage new development and help more working families find a place they can afford to call home.”

The legislation reflects broad bipartisan collaboration among lawmakers, housing providers, advocates and industry leaders to address one of the nation’s most pressing challenges. By updating programs that have remained largely unchanged for years, the law provides communities with stronger tools to expand housing opportunities and meet growing demand.

National CORE applauds Congress for advancing this landmark legislation and thanks the many housing organizations, advocates and policymakers whose partnership made this achievement possible.
