When Yazmin Velazquez heard her name announced as Assistant Manager of the Year by the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) during the organization’s Oct. 2 gala, she said she couldn’t move from her seat – she was too shocked to believe her own ears.
After some rousing cheers from her HavenCORE teammates, Velazquez accepted her recognition as one of the Inland Empire’s premier property management professionals.
“It was unreal,” Yazmin said. “It is such a great honor to win this award. I’m going to take the lessons I’ve learned from this job to continue being the best manager for my residents to make HavenCORE proud.”
IREM is an international community of real estate managers that promotes superior management through education and information sharing. Yazmin and Regional Manager Becky Bolton were both recognized at IREM’s Management Excellence awards, held at the Doubletree by Hilton in Ontario.
Yazmin is a relative newcomer to HavenCORE; her third anniversary is in November. She began her career as a leasing consultant at Mountainside in Rancho Cucamonga and quickly advanced to assistant manager. In August, she was promoted to manager of Day Creek Senior Villas.
Before joining HavenCORE, Yazmin mostly worked in warehouses for UPS and FedEx. Her career took a new direction when her now friend and mentor, Josephine Andrade-Butts, offered her a position at Mountainside and a chance to break free from her perpetual shyness, something she says stems from speaking English as her second language.
Yazmin credits Mountainside’s fast paced setting, the community’s welcoming residents and Andrade-Butts’ support with becoming more comfortable with her communication skills.
“I want to thank Courtney Richard, Chris Paez and the rest of the HavenCORE team for giving me the opportunity to grow in my career,” Yazmin said. “At HavenCORE, we can go as high as we want because our leaders have created a great team and great environment.”
