Stephanie Morris starts each day with a strong cup of coffee (she’s partial to nut-flavored blends) to jolt herself awake before she settles into her regular workflow. By noon, she has typically handled about $2 million in contracts for National CORE’s Construction Department.
Stephanie’s work as Construction Contracts Supervisor ensures that houses get built.
As a member of the Texas team, Stephanie is responsible for drafting and executing all Guaranteed Maximum Price contracts, subcontractor contracts, purchase orders and change orders for every project we build.
Without her, buildings wouldn’t get built and residents wouldn’t get housed, Senior Vice President of Construction Chris Killian said.
“Stephanie is very systematic in her approach to work,” Chris said. “It’s not the flashiest job, being in charge of documents and contracts, but you better believe it’s some of the most important work.”
Chris said Stephanie is National CORE’s first line of defense in protecting the company’s interests – working closely with multiple departments in the organization, she ensures that all of the contracts are accurate, complete and written in a way to minimize risk.
Stephanie is also responsible for one of the most important changes that National CORE’s Construction Department has undergone – digitalization.
When Stephanie started her tenure, the Construction Department dealt with reams of paper, slow faxes and burdensome in-person signatures. The resulting slow contract processes generated hundreds of physical contract copies for each development.
With the papers piling up, Stephanie made the decision to pivot to digital contracts using Procore software. It completely streamlined documentation creation, retrieval and sharing – and the projects they powered.
“Stephanie took an antiquated, paper-intensive system and got everyone onboard to make the change to digital. She created careful systems across multiple departments at National CORE and with our partners,” Chris said. “She really made us incredibly more efficient.”
Travis Haskin, National CORE’s vice president of estimating, said Stephanie is the Construction Department’s safety net – she keeps items moving and watches the team’s backs to make sure developments stay on schedule.
“Stephanie is the constant who is grinding away for us,” Travis said. “She’s the lifeblood of the paperwork and contracts behind everything the Construction Department does.”
Chris and Travis say Stephanie is the Construction Department’s best kept secret – her reliability has laid the foundation for the team’s surging success. As National CORE takes on an ever-growing number of building projects, Stephanie continually steps up to ensure everything flows smoothly.
Stephanie said she loves supporting her department as National CORE continues its Texas and Florida expansions. Most importantly, Stephanie takes pride in knowing that her quiet office work makes a big impact, making homes for thousands of people.
“I’m very proud of the work that we do at National CORE and I’m happy to do my part,” Stephanie said. “I don’t have much direct contact with the residents, but I still feel like I’m contributing in a major way.”
