National CORE and the San Diego Community Housing Corporation will welcome elected officials, local dignitaries and residents to the grand opening of Greenbrier Village, Oceanside’s newest affordable housing community.

Greenbrier Village is a beautiful integrated supportive housing community that provides 60 studio and one-bedroom apartment homes. Fifty apartments are reserved for individuals who have experienced homelessness, including five for veterans and three for youths aging out of foster care. Nine apartments serve residents who are at risk of becoming homeless.

The grand opening is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4.

Residents have been moving in since July, including Mary-Elizabeth, a lifelong Oceanside resident who became homeless for seven years following the death of her father and brother and a bout with mental illness.

“I don’t know where I would be without Greenbrier Village,” Mary-Elizabeth said. “I would be so lost without this stability. I’m proud to be part of this beautiful community. I feel like I’m home.”

Hope through Housing is partnering with the County of San Diego Behavioral Health Services and Interfaith Community Services to provide comprehensive case management for residents. Onsite services include mental, physical and behavioral health support, employment development and social connectedness.
