San Bernardino, Calif. – National CORE, in partnership with the Making Hope Happen Foundation and Loma Linda University, will receive a $500,000 philanthropic investment from JPMorgan Chase to support Uplift San Bernardino’s Development Plan.

JPMorgan Chase’s investment will enable National CORE, the Making Hope Happen Foundation, and Loma Linda University to identify solutions to help support ongoing revitalization efforts in San Bernardino. The organizations will examine how to support more diverse small businesses, incorporate more affordable housing, and ensure underrepresented communities are part of Uplift San Bernardino’s planning process.

“National CORE is extremely proud of the work being done by Uplift San Bernardino to strengthen the economic and development activities in the city,” said Michael Ruane, Executive Vice President of National CORE. “Uplift San Bernardino is a true collaboration to bring more opportunity and resources to the small business owners, families, seniors, and youth of San Bernardino.”

The partner organizations will develop research and policy recommendations for Uplift San Bernardino by convening and interviewing experts, city leadership and community stakeholders on key policy areas impacting San Bernardino. National CORE and the Making Hope Happen Foundation will lead community outreach initiatives, while Loma Linda University will lead data reporting and research to help inform policy recommendations.

“JPMorgan Chase is proud to support the important work Uplift San Bernardino is doing to strengthen a better future for all residents in the city,” says Sarah Bowles, VP of Global Philanthropy at JPMorgan Chase. “The firm is committed to advancing racial equity in communities across the nation, including in the Inland Empire, and we know that addressing barriers to affordable housing development and homeownership, as well as small business growth, are crucial components of this work.”

This investment builds upon two previous rounds of funding from JPMorgan Chase to Uplift San Bernardino with goals to increase the capacity of the collaborative’s work to address the persistent challenges of the community. With this new investment, Uplift San Bernardino will continue their work to develop a strong ecosystem for small businesses and entrepreneurs, connecting underserved businesses to business support organizations in the region, and achieving their ten-year housing production goals for the city.

“Previous rounds of funding from JPMorgan Chase have allowed Uplift San Bernardino and its network of partners to build a strong foundation to enact future change across the city,” said Karen Suarez, Director of Uplift San Bernardino. “With this new grant, we will be able to conduct further and more intentional outreach to help our local entrepreneurs and residents who need higher quality affordable housing and support for their businesses.”

Uplift San Bernardino started in 2019 as an organization to advance equitable and community-focused neighborhood development strategies, increase economic opportunities, and develop human capial for residents and small businesses in the city.
