National CORE, one of the nation’s largest nonprofit developers, hosted a March 12 grand opening ceremony for Orchard View Gardens – a beautiful affordable housing community that focuses on providing housing and support services for senior citizens.
Orchard View Gardens, which marks the second collaboration between National CORE and the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles, provides 66 apartments for residents who earn less than 60% of the area median income and are ages 62 or better. Thirteen apartments are reserved for seniors who have experienced homelessness.
The community was built on the St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church campus in Buena Park. National CORE and the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles previously teamed to develop Santa Angelina, which provides 65 apartment homes to low-income seniors on church-owned land in Placentia.
The event was attended by Chair of the Orange County Board of Supervisors and 4th District Supervisor Doug Chaffee, Orange County Board of Directors Vice Chair and Orange County Housing Finance Trust Chair Katrina Foley, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles The Rt. Rev. John Harvey Taylor, Rector of St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church The Rev. Cindy Voien, Director of Housing & Business Development for Episcopal Communities & Services The Rev. Michael Bell, Buena Park Mayor Joyce Ahn and the Buena Park City Council, OC Health Care Agency Assistant Deputy Director Diane Holley, National CORE President Mike Ruane, National CORE Chief Development Officer Alexa Washburn and Hope through Housing Executive Director Alyssa Cotter.
