SAN CLEMENTE, Calif. – National CORE, one of the nation’s largest nonprofit community builders, and the City of San Clemente will host a Grand Opening of the highly anticipated Las Palmas Village Apartments on Wednesday, March 2.
Las Palmas provides 18 units of much-needed workforce housing for very low-income families in south Orange County. Located near San Clemente’s historic downtown, the community matches the city’s “Spanish Village by the Sea” design style and will feature an onsite community resource center with computer stations, private underground parking, an outdoor courtyard garden area and private patios and balconies in select units. A 19th unit will be for the on-site manager.
The community also will feature on-site economic mobility assistance through the Hope through Housing Foundation.
“Las Palmas exemplifies a successful partnership with National CORE and others,” said Mayor Bob Baker. “I am proud that the City of San Clemente was involved. When we provide housing options for our local workforce, we promote economic and social benefits and the entire community wins.”
City Council member Lori Donchak said, “Las Palmas is a shining example of how workforce housing can be brought to a community. To be able to work and live in the same town – San Clemente – is a key value in our community, and this project meets that need.”
Steve PonTell, President and Chief Executive Officer of National CORE, called Las Palmas a critical step forward in meeting the workforce housing challenges in Orange County and throughout our region.
“The shortage of housing overall has driven prices beyond the reach of many low-to-moderate-income families. For those in the very-low-income category, it is practically impossible to find a high-quality place to live,” PonTell said. “We’re proud at National CORE and Hope through Housing to be able to provide the bricks and mortar and the life-changing human services that help meet this need, while transforming lives and communities.”
