COREvolution’s Energy Education Coordinator Molly Tenenbaum shines as brightly as the sun when she’s teaching residents about the benefits of solar energy and wise energy use, because she knows her outreach means lower utility bills and increased financial stability.
“It is so fulfilling to teach our residents about all the rebates, discounts and tips that can really help ease the burden of their utility costs,” Molly said.
Tenenbaum, who joined National CORE in 2025, recently held an energy education workshop at Cape Cod Senior Villas in Oceanside. The event outlined topics and tips such as benefiting from cheaper electricity during “off peak” hours after 9 p.m., San Diego Gas & Electric’s medical discount program, turning off lights when leaving rooms to minimize energy waste and programs that provide thousands of dollars in incentives for switching from gas-powered to electric vehicles.
Several residents, like Alberta, were shocked to learn that Cape Cod Senior Villa’s solar panel array was passively saving them money each month without their knowledge.
“I loved the energy education workshop because everyone was so positive and I learned a lot of great info,” Alberta said. “I also love living in a community with solar panels because it helps each of us save on our utility bills.”
Cape Cod Senior Villas is one of 68 National CORE communities to benefit from a rooftop solar panel array. In 2025, the community’s solar panels generated 59.75 MWh (megawatt hours), creating an estimated annual savings of $550 to $695 for each household.
Estella, 75, said Molly’s workshop made her realize that her energy spending has jumped because she overuses electronics during peak hours. She pledged to use her dishwasher only after 9 p.m.
“National CORE has so many great energy-efficient properties, and some of our residents just don’t know about it yet,” Molly said. “I love being the one who gets to explain how using energy conservation tips can make our communities even more affordable.”
