National CORE’s new Las Dahlias community in East Los Angeles has officially unveiled its LEED for Homes Platinum plaque, recognizing the development’s achievement of the highest standard in green building design.

The all-electric affordable housing community, which opened in 2024, was certified Platinum by the U.S. Green Building Council for its cost-contained, high-efficiency design –including a rooftop solar system that offsets 100% of common area energy use and 40% of the building’s overall energy needs.

Las Dahlias is National CORE’s 27th LEED-certified development and one of only a handful in the region to earn Platinum status. The community’s sustainability strategy was developed by COREvolution, National CORE’s green building enterprise led by sustainability director Tim Kohut.

The new plaque now stands at the heart of the community as a visible symbol of the project’s high-performance design and long-term investment in affordability, quality and resident well-being.

National CORE engaged in an intense, multi-layered partnership with area residents and county leaders to create the stunning Las Dahlias community. Conveniently located along the Metro Gold line, Las Dahlias community connects residents to job opportunities in downtown Los Angeles and the San Gabriel Valley.

In addition, National CORE and its partners obtained an award of $23.8 million from the California Strategic Growth Council’s Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities (AHSC) program that allowed for investment of $9.4 million in neighborhood public improvements and transit upgrades.

Las Dahlias is a treasure trove of stunning features, including a beautiful mural entitled East Los Luv by local artist Stephanie Mercado. The four-story mural reflects the soul, spirit and culture of East L.A.

On the inside of the community, residents have access to a series of amenities, including a new community center, a public plaza, a stunning courtyard, a rooftop garden, laundry facilities and more.
