On this year’s Earth Day, we are marking a major milestone in National CORE’s journey toward a greener future: Since 2021, our focus on sustainable design has cut more than 2 million pounds of greenhouse gas emissions.
That’s like taking 227 cars off the road every year, or the same as 66,129 trees working hard to clean the air for an entire year.
Since 2021, we’ve opened more than 18 new affordable housing communities and more than 1,500 apartment units – each one designed with cost-contained, high-efficient sustainability elements. From conserving water and reducing waste to aiming for Zero Net Energy, we’re pushing the boundaries of what affordable housing can be.
All our new housing communities feature photovoltaic solar panel systems, electric heat pumps, energy-efficient appliances and many more environmentally friendly amenities that reduce operational costs and slash utility bills for residents. At our existing buildings, we are replacing the older, gas-powered infrastructure with newer green technology.
Our sustainability efforts are led by COREvolution, our in-house sustainability design team.
These efforts have earned 27 LEED for Homes certifications from the U.S. Green Building Council – a testament to our leadership in energy efficiency, water conservation, healthy indoor environments and environmental responsibility. Las Dahlias, our newest East Los Angeles affordable housing community, recently earned a coveted Platinum certification for its all-electric, solar-supported, pedestrian-friendly design.
National CORE is proud to be leading the way on this Earth Day and all the Earth Days to come.
