Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass visited The Parkline on July 1 to celebrate the success of House Our Vets, a collaborative initiative that has helped more than 1,000 veterans experiencing homelessness transition into permanent housing since its launch in 2025.

HavenCORE welcomed Mayor Bass, representatives from the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA), community partners, residents and veterans for the event, which highlighted the partnerships making permanent housing possible for those who have served our country.

One of the day’s most memorable moments centered on Army veteran Kevina Mitchell, who shared her journey to stable housing. After a medical discharge from the military and years of housing instability, Mitchell and her daughter found a permanent home at The Parkline through House Our Vets.

Her story reflects the impact of the initiative and the importance of the partnerships behind it. By bringing together public agencies, housing providers and community organizations, House Our Vets is helping veterans move from housing instability to the safety and security of a permanent home.

For Assistant Community Manager Alex Murray, the mission is deeply personal.

“As a military dependent, this work is especially meaningful to me,” he said. “It feels good to be part of the process of giving veterans the opportunity to have a place they can truly call home. Building relationships with our residents and the agencies that serve them makes this work incredibly rewarding. It’s an honor to play even a small role in helping those who have served our country.”
