Oceanside, Calif. – National CORE’s newest affordable housing community, Greenbrier Village, has achieved LEED for Homes Gold certification form the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

The latest certification brings to 26 the number of LEED-certified properties owned and managed by National CORE, about a quarter of the company’s total portfolio. The list includes seven Platinum-certified properties and 18 Gold-certified communities.

LEED, which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is the world’s top green building rating system. The rating covers a range of metrics, from sustainable building materials to energy use. National CORE received an overwhelming seven LEED certifications in August, September and October.

“It’s been a tremendous year for National CORE’s sustainability program, now capped with our Greenbrier certification,” said Tim Kohut, National CORE’s director of sustainability. “These certifications represent our deep commitment to preserving natural resources and ensuring our residents enjoy the healthiest and most efficient communities.”

Greenbrier Village – a 60-apartment, all-electric community opened in mid-2024 – is National CORE’s first new construction project funded through California’s Solar on Multifamily Affordable Housing program, more frequently a partner in converting older properties to cleaner, solar energy. Approaching Zero Net Energy use, Greenbrier features high-efficiency heat pump systems for water heating and HVAC.

“We are building communities of exceptional quality, which isn’t easy to do,” Kohut added. “These developments will stand the test of time, as well as being exceptionally beautiful.”

National CORE is a six-time LEED for Homes Power Builder. The USGBC recognized Legacy Square, a Santa Ana affordable housing community, as a 2024 Affordable Housing Project of the Year.
