Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. – National CORE, a national leader in cost-contained, high-efficiency design, is launching COREvolution, an enterprise designed to guide owners of multifamily housing in boosting sustainability, reducing operating costs and creating healthier communities.
Drawing on decades of experience, COREvolution is designed to make green retrofits and all-electric upgrades achievable and affordable – especially for mission-driven organizations managing aging housing stock. The initiative is led by Tim Kohut, AIA, a nationally recognized leader in sustainable multifamily design.
“COREvolution is about empowering owners of affordable housing to make smart, future-focused upgrades that benefit both their bottom line and their residents,” Kohut said. “With rising utility costs and growing climate demands, this is the moment to act – and we’re ready to help.”
COREvolution supports two major tracks:
- New Construction: All-electric, solar-integrated buildings that achieve the highest standards in sustainability.
- Retrofits of Existing Properties: Converting aging gas-powered systems to all-electric, installing rooftop solar and integrating water and energy-saving upgrades – many of which are eligible for government rebates and incentives.
National CORE develops, builds and manages more than 100 affordable housing communities across the United States. A leader in sustainability, National CORE was the first developer to sign onto the American Institute of Architects’ 2030 Commitment, focused on reaching net zero emissions in the built environment.
COREvolution builds on National CORE’s nationally lauded track record in sustainable housing. The organization has achieved LEED for Homes certification in 27 communities, including two Platinum certifications in the past two years alone. Its Legacy Square community in Santa Ana was named LEED for Homes Affordable Project of the Year by the U.S. Green Building Council in 2024, placing it on the global stage for green building excellence.
Kohut has led sustainability efforts on some of Southern California’s most pioneering projects, including:
- Hart Village: First affordable housing in SoCal with photovoltaic systems
- Casa Dominguez: First LEED for Homes Platinum multifamily community in the region
- Cedar Springs: First with indoor graywater recycling systems
As both a licensed architect and certified energy professional, Kohut blends design vision with technical acumen to deliver real-world solutions for multifamily housing.
With COREvolution, National CORE is offering that same expertise to housing authorities, mission-driven developers, and nonprofit owners across the country, providing a practical roadmap to future-ready buildings.
