Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. – National CORE’s Mountain View affordable housing community, a 71-home development opened in 2023, earned a LEED for Homes Gold certification Aug. 9 from the U.S. Green Building Council.

LEED, which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is the world’s foremost green building rating system, used for both new building projects and renovations. The rating covers a range of metrics, from sustainable building materials to energy use.

Mountain View is National CORE’s 21st LEED-certified community and the 14th to receive LEED Gold certification since 2008.

“Mountain View’s achievement is reflective of our commitment to sustainability in all our developments,” said Tim Kohut, National CORE’s director of sustainability. “Each of our new communities is designed to run efficiently, reducing our impact on limited natural resources and ensuring a healthier environment for our residents.”

National CORE is a six-time LEED for Homes Power Builder, demonstrating the company’s long-term commitment to sustainable development. The U.S. Green Building Council recognized Legacy Square, a property opened earlier in 2023, as one of three international 2025 Affordable Housing Projects of the Year.

The all-electric Mountain View features extensive use of solar power, high-efficiency appliances, electric heat pumps, an energy-efficient building envelope and individual heat-pump water heaters at each apartment. Additionally, the community uses MoenFlo water metering devices to measure use at each apartment. The community uses zero net energy in its common areas.

Located in Lake Forest, Mountain View is within walking distance of schools, grocery stores and retail. Residents of Mountain View have access to onsite amenities such as laundry facilities, a beautiful courtyard featuring outdoor fireplaces, leisure areas, and a playground. A community center serves as the hub for activities and services for residents and the neighborhood at large.

Mountain View offers one-, two- and three-bedroom homes to individuals and families with household income qualifying maximums at various set asides ranging from 30% to 60% of the area median income (AMI). Eight units are reserved for individuals and families in the region who are experiencing or at-risk of homelessness.
