WASHINGTON D.C. – The affordability of housing is a growing national crisis, and on Wednesday, a national conversation on the problem and solutions to it will be webcast live by National CORE.
The two-hour symposium, from 1-3 p.m. Eastern time, will be presented live from the Gold Room of the Rayburn House Office Building in Washington D.C.
Hosted by National CORE, a leading national voice on housing affordability and one of the largest nonprofit developers of affordable housing in the United States, the symposium will focus on how families today are forced to spend a far higher proportion of their income for housing than ever before.
Several major studies have shown that even with the collapse of the housing market in recent years, incomes have not kept pace with rental costs. In fact, the drop in owner-occupied housing values has forced more people into the rental market, pushing demand in excess of supplies and driving rental rates up even more.
The symposium will feature many nationally recognized policy makers and experts in the field of housing affordability.
“The affordable-housing crisis in this country is about more than who can or cannot afford shelter,” said Steve PonTell, president and chief executive officer of National CORE. “It has broad economic and social implications, and we’re working to make this the national priority it needs to be.”
