Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. – National CORE (National CORE) will receive a $50,000 grant from the Wells Fargo Housing Foundation Priority Markets Program toward the redevelopment of the Waterman Gardens workforce housing community in San Bernardino.
The money will be used to cover predevelopment costs for Waterman Gardens and a pathway to home ownership program for residents of the community. The pathways initiative will be managed by the Hope through Housing Foundation. Only two organizations from Inland Southern California received funding from the Wells Fargo program.
The transformation of Waterman Gardens – a 1940s vintage public housing community – will serve as an economic catalyst for the city.
“We are extremely grateful for Wells Fargo’s continued support of our programs,” said Steve PonTell, President and Chief Executive Officer of National CORE, which founded Hope through Housing in 1998. “Programs such as this create tremendous opportunities for families to move from dependency to self-sufficiency.”
Priority Markets Program grants are funded through the Wells Fargo Housing Foundation to help communities stabilize their current housing situation while advancing homeownership to build strong communities into the future. A total of $6 million will be provided to 69 nonprofits in Priority Markets to address issues that impede growth, stability and investment in distressed markets. Applications for the grants are by invitation only.
“Wells Fargo is pleased to support the nonprofits that work tirelessly to help invigorate local neighborhoods and further their long-term financial success,” said David DiCristofaro, Wells Fargo Lead Region President for Greater Los Angeles, including the Inland Empire. “The Priority Markets Program has been an amazing catalyst of positive change, helping to bring together community stakeholders in order to improve neighborhoods and make an uplifting difference in local lives.”
