CORE Delivers Hope to Children, Families and Seniors Amid Crisis

Over the past month, National CORE and its resident service partner, the Hope Through Housing Foundation (Hope), have substantially increased support for residents across our portfolio of properties. Upon the first news that seniors were at higher risk for COVID-19 and residents began sheltering in place, Hope through Housing immediately began addressing the needs of seniors, vulnerable residents, and those who were unable to leave home to meet their needs.

Partnering with local food banks, churches, and others in the community, Hope through Housing has greatly increased the distribution of groceries, household essentials, and meals to seniors and families in need. So far, more than 5,000 households have received food assistance — and the smiling faces of our residents demonstrate their gratitude.

While delivering groceries and toilet paper recently, one resident responded, “I’ve been praying for toilet paper. Thank you!”

Another resident shared, “This place gives me confidence that I can live on my own and can handle anything, including this.”

Customized community resources guides also were created and distributed to all residents, regular phone calls are being made to seniors and other select families to check on their well-being, over 1,500 masks have been distributed to residents, and Hope through Housing’s Service Coordinators are available to help provide individual resource coordination to residents on their assigned properties. Hope through Housing has also just begun virtual financial counseling for residents who are facing the loss of a job or reduction in hours.

None of this incredible work could have been possible without strong partnerships. National CORE’s Property Management Team has been actively helping to sort and distribute food and informational flyers alongside the Hope through Housing team, and an array of individuals, companies, churches, and foundations have stepped up by donating funds and in-kind goods.

Hope Through Housing has established the COVID-19 Emergency Response and Resilience Fund to address the immediate needs of residents and to help residents fully rebound from this crisis over the coming months. To learn more and to get involved, please visit www.HTHF.org/relief.

Thank you to all of our partners who play a role in our continued mission to transform lives and communities – even during challenging times like these!
